Family Business
Buri Sport originally opened in the late 1930s under the name Steuri Bazar, founded by Fritz and Berta Steuri.
In 1965, Max and Heidi Buri took over the business and renamed it Buri Sport. They began selling skis, high-quality fashion and ski clothing. In the late 1970s, Max eventually started hiring out skis, beginning with his own pair. At the time, this meant he could not go skiing himself until they were returned.
In the late 1980s, Buri Sport was a founding member of Swiss Rent a Ski, now Swiss Rent a Sport, and shortly afterwards also became a founding member of Skiset Switzerland. Today, Skiset is the world’s largest ski hire franchise, with more than 900 shops.
Nils and Kim Buri founded the private Grindelwald Snowboard School in 1994, followed a few years later by the private Grindelwald Ski School.
With more than 30 employees from around the world, Buri Sport specialises in high-quality ski and snowboard equipment and carefully selected souvenirs. As a long-established sports shop in Grindelwald, we combine experience with personal service.
